Sweeping Coordination For Beginners

[NC11-AM] So, I have finally started to get into sweep picking. I feel that the biggest thing for me to overcome was getting the left and right hand in sync. To do this I did this pattern, modified from another lesson.

The finger progression is ring finger, middle, index. 14th fret, 13th, 12th respectively. It makes one loop, over and over. The purpose is to get the motion of the sweep going. I also did this patter with middle, index and pinky. 

Reversing direction, since this would be played with a down stroke first, is very important I feel. Start on the G string 12fret and start your down stroke to 13b, 14a and so on.

Taking it one step further we do the same patter, but progressing up the fret board. No hammer-ons or Pull-offs yet.

After doing this I thought, why not start further down and work my way up.

In the above tab, I used my pinky for the reaches until I made my way back up near the 12th fret. Doing this up and down, with a metronome (just Google it for a free one), I built up coordination rather quickly.

This is a basic building block for an Am7 arpeggio

This basic three string shape can be moved up and down the neck, just like the coordination practice from above.

Building upon the previous ideas, we can go further in progression. This time, adding a string. It's the same idea, just add the pinking with the other fingers.

Up and down the neck once again...

Add the hammer-ons and pull-offs

Doing this, again with a metronome, over and over for several hours...I could see a vast improvement in speed, accuracy and coordination.

After feeling comfortable with this, I went on to a 5 string shape

As you can see, it is the same pattern as the previous three string... but has added the root note A, along with C and E if played starting at the twelfth fret, a string, as shown. When moved, the starting note (shown here at the twelfth a string)will be your root of this arpeggio.

The beginning patterns will not sound good and are not meant to. Purely for coordination and such.
